About Me

Hi, my name is Mark, this blog is primarily about my running journey but also some cycling, swimming and triathlon posts as time goes by. All of those highs from PB’s, race finishes and goals smashed but also the real life side of running, the lows and disappointments of injuries, tough training days and failed goals. I hope to give a good balanced view of my running journey, the things I am doing and trying to help me reach my goals (more on these later) as well as the odd review of the gear I am using along the way.

So who is this Cheshire Runner guy? Well as the name suggests, I live in south Cheshire and one of my biggest passions is running. I began my running journey back on the 1st January 2016, another one of those New Year’s resolutions that fall by the wayside within a couple of weeks most people thought, however, this time was different. This time I was spurred on by two massive life changing events which occurred in 2015, the passing of my father and birth of my daughter. My goal was to get fit so that I can keep up with my daughter as she finds her feet in this world, be able to run around with her without turning into a sweaty out of breath mess. As I have progressed on this journey, my goal has changed after each step, firstly to get fit, then to run a 10K race, then half marathon and finally to run a full marathon, something I told my father I would do whilst watching the London marathon so years ago.

During my first year of running I completed a 10K race, 10 mile race and four half marathons as well as cycling 250 miles through Death Valley National Park to raise funds for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice in honour of my father who spent his last days at Dougie Mac. During 2017 I went on to finish my first marathon in Paris thus pushing the goal on further, now to completing the six World Marathon Majors.

Besides running I also have a passion for cycling so expect to see the occasional cycling blog appear along the way. I also have a growing desire to move towards triathlon and ultimately Ironman in the coming years. Its only adding swimming to what I already do right? If only it was that easy, so stay tuned on that front, I can see my post Marathon Major goal moving towards Ironman in the future.

The none sporty side of things, as mentioned above, I live in Cheshire with my wife, daughter and toy poodle and in the real world I work as a systems programmer in the IT sector. I have a love for travelling and for my sins I follow my local football team, Port Vale.

Thank you for taking the time to read my page, I hope you enjoy having a look around my posts and my thoughts on running.
